Bad light stopped play and THE MIGHTY EASTS El Cheapo Cars have retained the Pearce Cup after being the top qualifier for the final in a drawn game.
In retaining the Pearce Cup, Easts won Wellington cricket’s major club cricket prize for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons and end season 2013-14 holding all three Wilkinson Insurance Brokers Cricket Wellington Premier club cricket trophies, the Pearce Cup, the Twenty20 Cup and the Ewen Chatfield One-Day competition title.
The Premier team now heads off to Auckland this week to contest the national One-Day club cricket championship. As well as the three Premier titles, Easts also end the season still holding the Cook Shield, a challenge Shield up for grabs at the holder’s home & away 2 day games. Easts’ Cook Shield reign has now spanned six seasons and 38 successful defences.
Premier Reserve team also won the Alan Issac Trophy for 2 day games.
Well done lads and all the best for Auckland!!!!!!
The MIGHTY EASTS Premier Team have demolised Karori inside 2 days to win by 9 wickets and the Wilkinson Pearce Cup is back in our cupboard, where it has been for 11 of the last 12 years. The boys have brought the trophy back home AGAIN !!!!!!
After Day 1 you may have had some doubts with Karori 155-10 and Easts struggling at 78-6. However a slow but steady recovery on the 2nd day saw Easts achieve 137-10, only 18 behind on the 1st Innings. Karori’s 2nd innings was then in complete disarray with some excellent bowling by Ricky Joseph taking 6-41 and Jamie Gibson 4-50. Lance Dry only used 2 of his bowlers in Karori’s 2nd innings and had them all out for 96 in 25.5 overs. What a turnaround - now it was up to Easts!!! 115 runs required to get for the win and Josh Brodie 56*, Ben Orton 38 and Josh Mclauchlan 17* got us home with some positive batting in 19.5 overs.
Congratulations to the Premier Team !!!!!

"The MIGHTY EASTS"have secured the Wilkinson Pearce Cup for 2011/12. After losing it to Karori last year we had a poor start to this season with being bottom of the table after 5 rounds but then the wheel turned and we achieved top qualifier for the final at the Hawkins Basin Reserve against Naenae.
A comprehensive 9 wicket victory on day three has meant that the Pearce Cup is back home where it belongs. This now means that THE MIGHTY EASTS PREMIER TEAM have won this trophy for 10 of the last 11 years. Congratulations to Lance Dry (Captain) and your team and Management.
Lance won the toss and elected to bowl at Naenae. Soon after Easts had them in trouble and eventually dismissed them for 187 in the 1st innings. Wicket-takers were Michael Burns 3-53, Nathan Cameron 3-71 and Lance Dry 3-13. In response a 112 parntership between Ben Orton 72 & Niranjan Naguleswaran 48 got Easts off to a good start. Sam Mclauchlan also contributed a good 37 in a first innings total of 268. Surprisingly Naenae were not as agressive, as expected, in their 2nd innings and were contained with some consistent off stump bowling. Best bowling in the 2nd innings was Michael Burns 3-49, Ricky Joseph 3-53 and Nathan Cameron 3-49. Naenae were dismissed for 171 and this left Easts to score 91 to win the game. The Mighty Easts achieved the target set before lunch , on day 3, with not much effort with Josh Brodie scoring 53* and Niranjan Naguleswaran 21*.
The 9-wicket win equalled their biggest winning margin in a Pearce Cup final, also beating Naenae by 9 wickets in the 2006-07 final.

Yes the Mighty Easts qualified for the Premier Mens Final for the Wilkinson Pearce Cup. No guessing who the opposition was - Karori for the 3rd year in a row. Easts needed an outright win in the three day final at the Basin Reserve to claim the trophy for the astonishing 10th successive year.

Yes the game is over and the outstanding Easts Premier Team have won the Pearce Cup for the 9th successive year.
First day was a day for wickets with (28) falling. Karori won the toss and elected to bat first. In their 1st innings Karori were all out for (67) with Ricky Joseph getting (6-14) and Nathan Cameron (4-22). Easts were (37-7) at one stage in their 1st innings but recovered somewhat and were all out for (112), a lead of (45). Josh McLauchlan opened the innings and was (31) not out at the end and captain Lance Dry made the highest score (44) runs.
Karori’s 2nd innings was similar to their first and at stumps were (32-8). Lance Dry had (3-1).
Day 2 and Karori were dismissed for (70) - Lance Dry (3-21)Nathan Cameron (3-27) leaving Easts (27) runs to get for victory. Easts achieved this in losing just (2) wickets.
What a terrific boost the boys got from seeing the mob of Club supporters who turned out on Friday and Saturday to cheer on the team! And the guys responded in the best possible way but comprehensively dicking the "pretenders" from Karori and putting the prized trophy away for another year!! A huge thank you to Suz and Stacey for organising the support and the pikelets, crackers and cheese and pate, and cake, not to mention numerous other bitties!! A big thanks also to Pykey, Josh Stevens and others for their very vocal support, which I have no doubt was instrumental in reducing the guys from the soggy suburb to quivering wrecks, unable to cope with the stresses and pressures from the Mighty Easts machine!!
I was particularly impressed by Pykey’s sideline rendition of the Rod Stewart classic - "I don’t want to talk about it, how we broke Karori’s heart, won’t you stay here just a little bit longer, won’t you listen to my heaaarrrrt, to my heaaarrrt............."!
I also loved the verse that goes - "I can tell by your eyes that you’ve probably been crying for ever"!
It was a truly moving experience and one that brought a tear to many an eye!!!
What a wonderful occasion - go the Mighty Easts - I’ve got a lazy tenner on the next one!!
Gordie

Eastern Suburbs continued on their impressive run in the Pearce Cup running out winners in the 2007/08 final against North City. This is the seventh year in succession that East’s have won the Pearce Cup. The 2007/2008 season saw Easts finish the round robin phase 1.45 points ahead of qualifiers North City. This meant that we had to at least draw the game against North City in the three day final played 21-23 March 2008. After rolling North City for 181 in their first innings (Roger Fouhy 6-52), Easts batted solidly to amass 385 all out (John Peters 110, Lance Dry 70*, Robert Sewell 65 and Phil Parker 35 - it should be noted that Lance Dry and Roger Fouhy had a parthership of 89 for the last wicket). In their second dig North City ground out 234-9 (Roger Fouhy 5-98 for a match total of 11-150). This left Easts to get 31 runs to secure the victory – which were polished off in 5.4 overs for the loss of 3 wickets.
This is the first time in over one hundred years that a club has won seven consecutive Premier Mens championships in Wellington.
North City 181 & 234-9 ( Roger Fouhy 6-52 & 5-98 )
